Kenneth Lambert

Maximum Limit

Kenneth Lambert is a South African-born artist residing in Australia. He works predominantly in experimental media and brings a background in museum design, film production, and technology to a practice that is conceptually driven and materially attentive. Across installation, sound, expanded drawing, painting, and digital systems, he works with disintegrated material and computational processes to explore how experience is shaped at the intersection of technology and the humanities. His projects examine displacement, autonomy, embodiment, and the shifting conditions that define contemporary life, often capturing the zeitgeist through a distinctive visual and sonic language.

Lambert is drawn to systems that exceed the frame. His installations scale outward, seeking to escape the scene and absorb audiences into immersive environments where perception becomes both a subject and a method. This approach is central to works such as Stasis, developed with STARTTS, UNHCR, and Amnesty International, which translated data and testimony into a shared portrait of displacement. Without a Trace, commissioned for the Edge X Biennale of Sydney and later presented at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, extended his interest in gesture and erasure through a performative drawing environment that revealed the tension between human presence and mechanical precision.

His current project, Maximum Limit, generates an unstable weather ecology of light, sound, and vapour that gathers and disperses around the audience. The work asks how agency is felt when a storm forms through one’s own presence, folding human movement into atmospheric behaviour. This shifting field becomes a study of attention within the Anthropocene, where climate and perception entangle. Developed during the Dortmund residency, the project extends Lambert’s inquiry into data poetics and embodied instability.

The work will be presented as part of the world's most important media art festival, Ars Electronica in Linz, in collaboration with Experimenta and the Academy for Theatre and Digitality.
