The Blood of a Poet — Winner of the 2026 Prof. Balzert Prize

‘The Blood of a Poet’ an abstract structured piece in a neoclassical dance style, with seven female dancers from Ballett Dortmund, exploring the limits of the human body, similar to the poetesses who sought to break the barriers and limits of society. For the choreography, Guillem Rojo i Gallego will be awarded the Professor-Balzert-Prize for Digital and Analogue Choreography 2026 at Theater Dortmund. The Production combines high level dance performances with new age technology. Using technology such as motion-capture, real-time-photorealstic Renderings, generative Artificial Inteligence to express the choreographers intention and emotions for the performance.

"The Blood of a Poet“ is a collaboration between the Academy for Theatre and Digitality (Artistic Director: Marcus Lobbes) and Ballet Dortmund (Artistic Director: Dr. Jaš Otrin).

Nils Gallist is a 3D tech artist from Austria who specializes in theater productions, virtual production, and animation. As part of the cyborg collective “minus. Eins,” he is also heavily involved in digital theater. Especially during the pandemic, this collective made its mark by building digital 3D worlds and producing several festivals, events, and plays for the Ars Electronica Festival, the Staatstheater in Köln, Berlin, Dortmund, and other international institutions. Nils is also teaching animation and digital exhibition design at the university of applied sciences in Upper Austria.
