With the approximately 2,000 square meter new building of the Academy for Theater and Digitality on Speicherstraße, the city and Theater Dortmund are committing themselves to the future and further development of the performing arts: New space is being created for international and application-oriented research on digital technologies for various contexts of the performing arts. Professional development and the profiling of university education on digitality in the performing arts are also on the agenda, as is a wide range of consulting services for festivals, municipal and state theaters, and many other institutions from Germany and abroad.
In this way, not only is the theater of the future envisioned here, but new groundbreaking networks and partnerships between art, science and business can also be created with joint projects, in which the limits and possibilities of digital technologies are explored. As a place for creativity and digitality, the academy is also considered to represent the core pillar of the new digital harbour.
The following areas are available in the new building:
seven laboratories of different sizes ranging from 25 to 250 square metres in floor space and heights from 3.05 m to 9.00 m
motion tracking and greenscreen-lab
a video and audio studio
a workshop with plotter, laser cutter, workbench, soldering station and other technical devices
several rooms for seminars and workshops
The new building is financed by municipal funds.
