Digitality is revolutionizing future theatre!

Digitality is to move into the theater, not only regionally but also internationally.

The aim of the diverse new training programs of Theater Dortmund's sixth division is to familiarize theaters worldwide with digital tools and methods. The Academy for Theater and Digitality is joining forces with international partners to offer workshops and webinars on basic and advanced digital theater topics - what possibilities do digital tools such as artificial intelligence, augmented reality and robotics offer? Which programs can be adapted for the theater? And ultimately: when is digitality useful for whom?

Under this motto, the Italian drama school Accademia Teatrale Carlo Goldoni is currently a guest at the Academy for Theatre and Digitality in Dortmund's port to prepare its students for working in the theater and familiarize them with digital tools. The school is part of the Fondazione Teatro Stabile del Veneto, which also includes three theaters in the Veneto region. At the academy, they learn how to transport real people into digital worlds using the green screen, how to build these digital worlds in the Unreal Engine (a computer program used to design video games) and how to create and animate digital avatars of their own likeness using the Smart and Kinect cameras. The workshops are divided into different sections and take place over a week full of practical exercises and theoretical knowledge.
