Relaunch of theatres with transmedia storytelling and mixed reality, Hosted by us and Play On!

MARCH 25th/26th

In most European countries, theatres have been in shut-down - with interruptions - for almost a year. Now that the end of the pandemic is becoming visible, the re-start of the theatres is associated with much hope. The theatres hope to find their audience (again), the artists hope to be able to realise the (new) themes of the time.

The Corona-lockdown has once again accelerated digitalisation and pushed it into the broader sphere of our societies. Is the hope justified that the relaunch of theatres will promote transmedia storytelling and mixed-reality technologies?
The EU-funded platform PlayOn!, consisting of 9 theatres with experience in the artistic experience of digital technologies and 9 universities with proven digital expertise, will hold a two-day Creative Online Forum: Relaunch of theatres with transmedia storytelling and mixedreality.
The conference will focus on best practice theatre productions that combine immersive theatre with reality gaming elements and/or use XR technologies. Panel discussions will explore, among other things, how theatre aesthetics change/expand through XR technologies and how interactive narrative structures challenge authors and audience. In working groups, demands on actors, set design and dramaturgy will be tested and discussed. In keynote speeches, we hope for suggestions on which utopias can lead us out of the crisis and should be told immersive on our stages.
