In cooperation with the German Stage Association and the International Forum of the Theatertreffen, a three-day short residency for the Namibian artist Tjijandjeua “Gift” Uzera begins today, 19 May 2025, at the Academy for Theatre and Digitality.
Tjijandjeua “Gift” Uzera works as an interdisciplinary performer at the interface of dance, theatre, music and film. His work focuses on the themes of queerness, decolonisation and cultural memory. He completed his Bachelor's degree in Musicology, Dance and Psychology at the University of Namibia in 2017. Uzera's projects include ‘Rhythm Reborn’ (2024) about the evolving Herero dance, ‘Unwritten Archives’ (Munich) about the Herero-Nama genocide and ‘Hereroland’ at the Thalia Theatre in Hamburg (2020) and in Namibia (2023). He also starred in ‘Hand-Holder’ at Showmax and ‘The Measured Man’, both of which will be released in cinemas in 2023. His work was featured in the exhibition ‘ENTANGLED’ (2024 to March 2025) at Oxford University's Rhodes Trust.
