On January 26, the Academy for Theater and Digitality was filled with an international audience of experts. The reason? The black-brick building hosted the final event of the eighth fellowship funded by the German Federal Cultural Foundation.

How can you breathe life into avatars via #MotionCapturing? How can violence be depicted on stage without aestheticizing or reproducing it? What are the possibilities of holographic theater? How can dance and virtual reality merge? And how can a theater performance be developed for smartphones? These were the research questions that the fellows of the Academy for Theater and Digitality addressed during their five-month research period in Dortmund. At the end, Laura Waltz, Hanna Rode, Piet Esch, Jorge Guevara and Björn Lengers presented the results of their vision of a theater of the future.
