DISCO EARTH: A Presentation of the HIDA-Fellowship

Climate change seems far away and yet it is ominously close. We feel powerless in the face of what is happening to the earth. The relationship between nature and man is changing.

Director and performance artist Hen/i and programmer and artist Do Mayer present as part of their Helmholtz Information & Data Science Academy (HIDA) Fellowship at the Academy for Theater and Digitality on a project that combines artistic, scientific and social perspectives.

The duo's project introduces us to the consequences of climate change, exploring the means by which we can effectively cool the earth in local spaces. Adaptation is the keyword here. How can humanity adapt to the facts and consequences of climate change, and what can we do to improve in the future? Their goal is to make applied climate research tangible through a mix of digital simulation and transdisciplinary experimentation. A computer game-like simulation that shows the physical data of climate change in a virtual world and a social dance performance that gives shape to the psychological aspects of human responses to climate change are the means of communication. What comes together is an interactive demonstration of scientific knowledge and an interpersonal experiment.
