How can cohesion be generated in chaos? How can lively effects be created in hybrid environments? And what influence do feedback systems have on the feeling of freedom in installations that make use of augmented realities?

Inspired by Beckett's short story “The Lost Ones” and Lucretius' “De rerum natura”, FIRMAMENT creates an interactive fabric that weaves in the interaction of the audience and makes it a central element. Using movement trackers, the audience could navigate live through the installation and change the textures, structures and sounds of the environment in real time.

FIRMAMENT is a project by alumni Christoph Wirth and Markus as OBLIQUE SENSATIONS. The commissioned work for Jeffrey Shaw and the Visualization Research Center of Hong Kong Baptist University is funded by the Innovation and Technology Fund (ITF). The development is kindly supported by the ZKM and the Academy for Theater and Digitality. The presentation of the prototype in Dortmund is supported by the Musikfonds and the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media.
