Die Verwandlung des Gregor Samsung

written by Franz Kafka, Wilke Weermann an an artificial intelligence

‘And when we wake up one morning from restless dreams - will we find the world transformed into a monster?’

While director Wilke Weermann withdraws, the AI ‘MeMo’ takes over his tasks in the rehearsal process. It writes scenes, develops choreographies, designs the stage set and reacts live to the actors. Franz Kafka's The Metamorphosis tells the story of Gregor Samsa, who becomes a metaphor for an alienated existence in a grotesque metamorphosis: As soon as he no longer conforms to social expectations, he is declared useless. Wilke Weermann and his team turn the tables and explore current questions about our relationship to artificial intelligence in our lives and working environments: AI must prove that it is more than a mere executive tool and that artistic creativity can also emerge from algorithms. In times when pressure in the world of work leads to a feeling of alienation, the boundary between man and machine is scrutinised, as is the question of whether creativity and creative power can also be anchored in a digital consciousness.

After a short break, the performance will be followed by an AI FIRESIDE CHAT on the topic of ‘AI & Creativity’.
